Drake Drops $300k on Sinner Despite Stake Dispute

The world’s number one tennis player, Jannik Sinner, has the support of Drake’s wallet after the rapper placed a $300,000 bet on him to defend his US Open title. Yet questions linger—will this backfire under the weight of the infamous curse?

High-Stakes Wager on the US Open

Drake has placed a massive $300,000 bet on Jannik Sinner to retain his US Open crown. If the world number one delivers, the payout will reach $507,000. Bookmakers have Sinner as the clear frontrunner at 1.67 odds, with his path including a quarter-final against Lorenzo Musetti and a potential semi-final clash with Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Meanwhile, the other half of the draw features Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz, priced at +150, remains the strongest contender to challenge Sinner in the final and secure his sixth Grand Slam.

Rift with Stake Still Ongoing

Despite a public falling-out with Stake’s founders, Drake continues to use the crypto-betting site, even linking it directly from his Instagram profile. This comes after he criticised the operator for allegedly blocking withdrawals and shut down his Kick streaming channel, vowing never to livestream gambling again.

Tensions heightened when he insulted Stake and Kick owners Ed Craven and Bijan Tehrani during a livestream hosted by Trainwreck. Neither businessman has publicly responded to his comments.

The Shadow of the ‘Drake Curse’

Sinner is chasing his fifth major and second US Open, but the weight of the so-called ‘Drake curse’ looms large. Drake’s betting history is riddled with losses, including a staggering $8 million in just one month and a reported $125 million wagered with Stake overall.

Some of his most infamous defeats include losing $1.2 million on Jake Paul against Tyson Fury and $1 million on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ ill-fated clash with the Florida Panthers. The curse has even spread to athletes posing alongside the rapper, with several high-profile defeats following photo ops.

Back in 2019, Italian side AS Roma jokingly barred players from posting photos with Drake to avoid the supposed jinx. Fans of Sinner will be hoping history doesn’t repeat itself as the Italian star hunts for another Slam.

Drake’s latest gamble has reignited debate over the infamous curse and his turbulent relationship with Stake. All eyes are now on Jannik Sinner, as he aims to continue his Grand Slam dominance and sidestep the superstition that has haunted so many before him.
