UKGC Imposes £170,000 Fine on Fafabet for Regulatory Breaches
Taichi Tech Limited, trading as Fafabet, has been fined £170,000 by the UK Gambling Commission for unfair terms in its online casino promotions and failures in anti-money laundering and social responsibility protocols.
Unfair Terms Violate Consumer Protection Laws
Fafabet’s terms included a clause allowing the operator to close accounts or forfeit winnings at its discretion, without clear justification. The UKGC found this to violate the Consumer Rights Act 2015, as it created a significant imbalance between the operator and consumers, lacking transparency and fairness.
AML and Social Responsibility Shortcomings
The UKGC’s investigation also uncovered deficiencies in Fafabet’s AML and social responsibility measures. Customers were permitted to gamble large amounts without sufficient checks, and the operator failed to act when players showed signs of gambling-related harm. Fafabet is now mandated to undergo an independent audit to address these issues and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
